$96M in State and Federal Funds Available from NYS Homes & Community Renewal (HCR)

The HCR's Office of Community Renewal has announced available funds for the following programs:

  • $40 million in CDBG funding
  • $25 million for the Affordable Home Ownership Development Program
  • $20 million in HOME monies
  • $5 million for New York Main Street
  • $4 million for the Access to Home program
  • $2 million to RESTORE

FHFA Director Nominee Faces Political Hurdles

The Wall Street Journal reports that Joseph P. Smith's nomination as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency is in doubt due to political battlelines being drawn concerning the future employment of Fannie and Freddie Mac.

Rental Housing Revitalization Act of 2010 Introduced

The blog reports that Congressman Keith Ellisaon (D-MN) has introduced a revised version of HUD's Preservation, Enhancement, and Transformation of Rental Assistance Act of 2010. Titled the Rental Housing Revitalization Act of 2010, the bill would "authorize HUD to initiate a voluntary, multi-year effort to transform properties with rental assistance contracts under various HUD programs... [and] is designed to preserve affordable housing opprotunities for the long term."

NYS Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) Approves $342M in Financing and Grants

The package includes $339M in financing from the Housing Finance Agency and the Affordable Housing Corporation, along with $2.75M in grants from the Housing Trust Fund Corporation through the Community Development Block Grant program and almost $680,000 in communuity planning awards.

Senate Committee to Approves Nomination for Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency

The Huffington Post reports that the Committee on Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs has voted 16-6 to forward the nomination of Joseph Smith, Jr. to be Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency. This nomination now heads to the full Senate for a binding vote.
